Rare Look Inside Foxconn, Apple’s Largest Supplier In China

Did you every wonder where your iPad was made?  You might know it was made in China, but by who?

Foxconn is the largest maker of Apple products.  We here at Kid Friday always thought that it looked cool seeing that your Apple device was “Designed in California”.  Perhaps Apple engineers were inspired by the sun to design great products.  We don’t live in California, but the name gives a perceived “coolness” to everything they produce.

Designing a product is one thing, but making it is another.  Kid Friday’s own Dave Swerdlick has been to Shenzhen, home to Foxconn.  He traveled from Hong Kong to Guangzhou..  Right in the middle sits Shenzhen, the electronics capital of China.

So why go all the way to China to make an iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, just about any Apple product?  Because according to the New York Times, the average Foxconn employee is paid $2.50 an hour.  Much less than most places around the world.

Anyway, it is very rare to get an inside peak where a lot of  Apple products are made.

We highly recommend taking a look at the ABC Television exclusive: Apple Foxconn Inside Look

China Loves Angry Birds!

There just seems no stopping those Angry Birds from taking over China — The next move in Rovio’s China take-over plan is to open up shops in Beijing and Shanghai, and the company aims to hit $100 million in retail sales in China in the first year of store operations.

According to comments made to local media by Huang Zesen, sales manager of the authorized reseller of Rovio in China, Rovio plans on opening Angry Birds stores in Beijing and Shanghai, and the company is choosing locations at the moment. The company is well on the way to opening the stores between July and August. The retail space of the Angry Birds store in China will be designed at around 200-300 square meters, similar to Rovio’s first store in Helsinki, Finland.

China iPhone 4S Release Not So Smooth

iPhone 4S China

Apple has announced that it will halt the sale of the newly launched iPhone 4S in China after reports of pandemonium at some locations due to high demand, reports Reuters.

An Apple spokesperson said that they were “unable to open our store at Sanlitun due to the large crowd,” adding, “to ensure the safety of our customers and our employees, iPhones will not be available in our retails stores in Beijing and Shanghai for the time being.”

The halt is likely due to problems faced when chaos erupted at the Sanitlun store in Beijing. Large crowds, including huge numbers of scalpers, had gathered at the store previous to the device’s release. When it was announced that the store would be closed, shoppers pelted the location with eggs.
