Sony PS3 and Vita: Buy One Get The Other Free!

PlayStation 3 owners who purchase SuperBot Entertainment’s new mascot fighter PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale will also get the PlayStation Vita version at no additional cost, Sony announced today. The buy one, get one free deal is part of Sony’s new Cross Buy initiative, which will soon extend to other games.

Sony also announced that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault — known as Ratchet & Clank: Q Force in Europe — will also support Cross Buy, a roundabout way of announcing that the next Ratchet & Clank game is also coming to Vita. Buying the PS3 versions of Thieves in Time and Full Frontal Assault will get you a Vita copy at no additional cost.

PlayStation Vita Now Has Three New Free Apps

PlayStation Vita Now Has Three New Free Apps

Sony has presented three new applications for its recently launched PlayStation Vita console that will be released for free in the near future and provide some interesting activities for owners of the device.

The PlayStation Vita came out back in February and, since then, Sony’s been launching many new games for the portable console, while continuing to hype up future releases.

Now, in between presenting some new games for the Vita, the Japanese company has revealed three apps that will be released onto the device for free.

The first, and the one that’s already available via the PlayStation Store, is called Paint Park. This app allows owners of the Vita to turn it into a virtual sketch pad and draw whatever they want by interacting with the touchscreen.

Playstation Vita Selling Like….Well It’s Selling A Lot

sony playstation vita

Sony said today that its PlayStation Vita gaming handheld has sold more than 1.2 million units worldwide. The Vita went on sale last week in the U.S. and Europe, and it has been on sale since December in Japan.

The Vita crossed that sales number on Feb. 22, the day it went on sale in the U.S. and Europe. The company has also sold more than 2 million software units. The Vita is Sony’s bid to remain relevant in portable games in an age of smartphones and tablets.

Andrew House, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, said in a statement, “PS Vita was designed to deliver the ultimate portable entertainment experience, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the reaction we’re seeing from consumers and the pace at which PS Vita is selling.”

One More Music Choice For Your IOS Device

Apple users probably have more than enough media on their iDevices to keep them entertained on the go, but Sony Network Entertainment President Tim Schaaff thinks there’s room for another media service on iOS. According to VentureBeat, the company’s Music Unlimited streaming service will land on iOS some time in Q1 2012.

Just Released Playstation Vita Has Issues

ps vita

Whenever new hardware launches, whatever it is, there are problems. The PS Vita is new hardware, and while I haven’t experienced any hardware issues, others have. These are some of them.

According to YouTube videos, there are some machines experiencing lock-ups and freezing. One error appears to occur during the System Update, which then freezes. Another issue seems to be a non-responsive touch screen. It’s still early in the hardware’s launch cycle, so it’s difficult to discern how widespread the issue is. Pro-gamer Kiryu Tsukimiya tweeted that he soon experienced it.

When the PS Vita freezes, the hardware apparently will not shutdown. A writer at Japanese news site Rocket News experienced that issue during Shin Sangoku Musou Next online play.

Sony Vita Might Get Flash

Sony Vita

Despite the cancellation of development and discontinuation of support for Flash on mobile devices, Sony Division 2 software-development head Muneki Shimada has said that his company is continuing its negotiations with Adobe, and that the end of Flash for mobile may not necessarily mean the end of Flash for Vita. We’re not really sure how someone could negotiate a company back into supporting a dead platform, but if anyone knows anything about dead platforms, it’s Sony.

System Software Update for PS3

A new system software update (v4.00) will be released this week. In preparation for the launch of PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) in Japan, this update will prepare PlayStation 3 (PS3) to serve as a content management device. It will allow users to copy their digital content such as games, music, photos, and videos between PS Vita and PS3, back up PS Vita game games including save data to your PS3 hard drive, and update the system software for your PS Vita system using the network features of your PS3.

Playstation Vita getting closer!

Playstation Vite

With the PS Vita’s February launch drawing ever closer, Sony’s working to get developers of all sizes and types on board. To that end, it just announced a closed beta for the PlayStation Suite SDK, which lets Windows 7 and Windows XP users start developing for the PS Vita, as well “PlayStation Certified” devices in the PS Suite, such as the Android-powered Xperia Play.
