Mini iPad Coming In October

Mini iPad Coming In October

According to a new report from AllThingsD, sources close to the situation have confirmed that Apple will pull back the curtain on a new, smaller iPad during a special event in October. Meanwhile, all signs still point to an iPhone unveiling on September 12, so rabid members of the tech press and Apple’s fan club should have plenty of time to dig into one new product before another takes the stage.

Rumors of a smaller iPad have been making the rounds ever since Apple’s 10-inch tablet first hit the market, and those rumblings have only grown in intensity since companies like Amazon and Google entered the fray. At this point, there’s still hardly any concrete information about Apple’s smaller iPad (unless you’re the type to read too much into sketchy Chinese cases), but there’s little question that Apple’s tiny tablet would mean plenty of trouble for those two players in particular.

Amazon’s pint-sized Kindle Fire has been one of the only tablets to give the iPad line a run for its money in terms of sales, and the company is expected to unveil the Fire’s successor at a press event on September 6. Meanwhile, Google worked with Asus to produce the impressive Nexus 7, and recent speculation seems to indicate that Nexus 7 sales could easily outpace Google’s own expectations. Considering the iPad’s tremendous popularity though, we may soon see Amazon and Google’s momentum take a nosedive should Apple push out a product to compete in the same niche those companies’ devices currently occupy.

iPad Mini and iPhone 5 Set To Go On Sale September 21

iPad Mini and iPhone 5 Set To Go On Sale September 21

According to iMore, Apple is planning to Debut the new iPhone at a special event on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, with the release date to follow 9 days later on Friday, September 21. This information comes from sources who have proven accurate in the past.

The iPad mini will be announced at the same September 12 event, as will the new iPod nano. We haven’t heard a release date for the iPad mini yet, but it could be the same as the iPhone 5. It seems likely the new iPod touch will make an appearance on September 12 as well, though we haven’t heard any specific information about that yet either.

Last year, the iPhone 4S was announced on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, and released 10 days later on October 14. The event included minor updates to the iPod line, notably a white iPod touch 4. This year, the iPad 3 was announced on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, and released 9 days later on March 16. The event included a 1080p Apple TV.

New Angry Birds SPACE out March 22nd

Fans of Angry Birds are counting the days to the March 22 release of the new game that pits the feathery pig-seeking missiles against their porcine arch-enemies in the hostile environs of outer space.

Finnish game developer Rovio has been steadily doling out Angry Birds Space news and teasers for the past several weeks, even enlisting NASA flight engineer Don Pettit to demo the new game from his lofty and weightless perch aboard the International Space Station, in orbit about 243 miles above the earth.

Short glimpses of the new game for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android haven’t revealed a ton of details, but we do know that for the first time, it introduces “gravitational fields,” which will influence both the trajectory of the birds themselves, as well as how they fly through space.

Confirmed: Apple’s Next iPad Out March 16th in the U.S.

ipad 3

Apple has today announced its new third-generation iPad, which comes packing a new high-resolution Retina display. “Until you see it you can’t understand how amazing it is”, said CEO Tim Cook.

The new iPad is priced at $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, $699 for 64GB. And $629, $729, and $829 for 4G. It will be available on March 16th in the US and available for pre-order today. It will be available from March 23 for 32 other countries. The iPad 2 will continue to be sold for $399 in a 16GB flavor and $529 for a WiFi + 3G 16GB model.

iPad 3 To Keep Same Pricing

ipad 3

Earlier this week, we heard rumors from Chinese news blog Sina Weibo that the upcoming third generation iPad would also come with a hefty price increase, due to the high resolution display.

The tablets were expected to go up approximately $80, giving the baseline 16GB WiFi iPad a price tag of $579 instead of $499. That price increase? Not true, says 9to5Mac.

In fact, Apple’s iPad prices won’t be shifting at all – not exactly a surprise, since Apple doesn’t often do price hikes. The entry level 16GB WiFi model will cost the standard $499, while upgrading to 32 or 64GB of storage adds $100 and $200, respectively.

The WiFi + 3G models are also the same price, at $629 for the base model and $729/$829 for the upgraded models.

As a side note, it appears storage configurations will remain the same, without the introduction of an 8GB iPad that DigiTimes claimed was in the works this week. It looks like it will be the standard 16/32/64 setup.

Here Comes The iPad 3! Press Event Scheduled March 7th

As expected, Apple on Tuesday announced an event to show off the company’s next generation iPad.  The event will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

While nobody knows for sure what changes the iPad 3 will have, it is widely expected the device will have a faster processor, improved graphics processor and a Retina Display.

All of us here at Kid Friday think that the iPad 3 will be released VERY soon after this announcement.  We’re sticking by our March 9th prediction for release in the U.S.

Apple Demo Close As iPad 3 Set For March Release

Apple Demo Close As iPad 3 Set For March Release

Now that the beans have been, mostly, spilled with regards to the early March announcement of the iPad 3, more information is coming forward about Apple’s preparations for the event. Sources with knowledge of the matter have informed The Next Web that the company is in ‘crunch mode’ when it comes to lining up apps both to demonstrate on-stage and to show off in new advertisements for its third iPad.

Apple has a long history of hand-picking apps that it thinks are exemplary or really show off the hardware of a device to demonstrate during iPad presentation. The iPad 2 saw demo segments with Apple’s own Garage Band, iMovie and Photo Booth apps, while the recent ‘Let’s Talk’ iPhone event saw game title Infinity Blade 2 demoed in order to show off the graphics capabilities of the new iPhone 4S.

Apple’s pre-event weeks are often spent soliciting demonstrations from many app developers and preparing demonstrations of those apps for the live event. Our sources tell us that this selection process is continuing at an increased rate as Apple looks to finalize the lineup for the iPad 3. There is also emphasis on graphics-oriented applications with high-definition assets, which appears to be in line with the new iPad featuring a ‘Retina’ display.

Confirmed: New Wii U To Be Released Later This Year

Confirmed: New Wii U To Be Released Later This Year

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has told reporters that the Wii U will launch in the US, Japan, Europe, and Australia for the end of 2012. While the system was previously pegged for a 2012 release, this is the first time we’ve got confirmation that it’ll make it in time for the holiday season in all major markets. The 3DS launched last year in February in Japan and March elsewhere, meaning it likely got off to a slower start than if it had been available before Christmas. The announcement also means we are likely to see much more finalized details of the Wii U’s software lineup at E3 in June — so far, hands-on time with the console has been limited to tech demos.

China iPhone 4S Release Not So Smooth

iPhone 4S China

Apple has announced that it will halt the sale of the newly launched iPhone 4S in China after reports of pandemonium at some locations due to high demand, reports Reuters.

An Apple spokesperson said that they were “unable to open our store at Sanlitun due to the large crowd,” adding, “to ensure the safety of our customers and our employees, iPhones will not be available in our retails stores in Beijing and Shanghai for the time being.”

The halt is likely due to problems faced when chaos erupted at the Sanitlun store in Beijing. Large crowds, including huge numbers of scalpers, had gathered at the store previous to the device’s release. When it was announced that the store would be closed, shoppers pelted the location with eggs.

Sources Say iPad 3 Set To Arrive In February

iPad 3

The next iPad will be introduced in February according to a research note issued by Citi analyst Richard Gardner, obtained by Business Insider.

According to “several sources” the next iPad will launch in February, and it will sport a screen with double the resolution of the current model.

Gardner says, “there do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining” to prevent a launch of a high-resolution iPad, despite rumors to the contrary.

Gardner’s note echoes prior reports of a mid-Winter launch for the iPad 3.
