2012 Brings USB 3.0 To Speed Up Syncing and Charging

2012 Brings USB 3.0 To Speed Up Syncing and Charging

By the end of 2012 smartphones and tablet devices will sport a USB 3.0-based microUSB connector, which will allow speedier data transfer than the current USB 2.0 standard.

USB 3.0 theoretically allows for data transfer rates of around 625 MB/s, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0, whose maximum data transfer speed is 60 MB/s. The USB 3.0 transfer speed on mobile devices won’t be that fast, but it will be much faster than now.

“What takes 15 minutes will roughly take 1 minute and 10 seconds,” said Rahman Ismail, CTO of the USB Implementers Forum at the CES trade show in Las Vegas.

Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets will also recharge more quickly through USB 3.0.

$100 Tablet Launching This Week

Tablet

The OLPC XO tablet has been in the works for years now, but we haven’t seen anything concrete about it until now. Apparently, Nicholas Negroponte’s baby is finally ready to come into this world. OLPC will be officially launching the OLPC XO 3.0 tablet at the CES this week.

Like the OLPC XO laptop, it will also have a rugged case and can be charged using a hand crank or a solar panel. It can get around 10 minutes of runtime from one minute of cranking. The OLPC XO 3.0 will be powered by the Marvell Armada PXA 618 processor, which minimizes power consumption to extend battery life.

Prada Introduces New Mobile Phone

Prada LG Mobile Phone

Fancy, Schmancy!  The luxury brand Prada and LG Electronics have introduced the “PRADA phone by LG 3.0” today. It is the third PRADA phone that has emerged from the collaboration. It will run on Android.

The PRADA phone by LG is 3.0, the first smartphone on the label. The appearance of smartphones reflects the design philosophy of PRADA. The front is made of Corning Gorilla glass, the sides are strongly rounded and the back is covered by the PRADA Saffiano typical pattern.

Pricing will be announced soon, but expect it to be much more than you’ve ever spent on any mobile device.
